지난 10일 새벽쯤(?)에 고대디닷컴 서비스가 다운되는 일이 벌어졌다.
똘82닷컴(www.ttol82.com)도 잠시나마 그것을 느꼈다. 집에 인터넷이 잘못 되었나 싶었는데.. 여기저기 난리가 난 듯...
물론 똘82닷컴은 손해를 보거나 아쉬운 점은 전혀 없었다.ㅋㅋ
똘82닷컴이 체감하기로는 그 때가 한국시간으로는 새벽 3~4시쯤(?) 발생한 것으로 알고 있다. 잠결이라 자세한 시간은 모르겠지만...
똘82닷컴이 그렇게 추천하고 추천하는 도메인 업체인데... 신문기사나 인터넷을 참고하면 웹호스팅 쪽과 더불어 DNS 서버쪽도 이상이 있었다고 한다. 고대디가 해킹을 당했다는 설이 강한데... 나하고는 상관이 없으니...
고대디측은 해킹은 아니라고 하고... 고대디측도 페이스북을 보니 진땀을 좀 뺀 모양이다.
똘82닷컴도 많은 도메인을 고대디닷컴에 등록해서 사용하고 있는데, 크게 실감은 하지 못했다. 접속이 안 되는 놈들도 있었고... 그런데 오전에는 잘 되는 것 같았다.
이번 사태로 고대디의 CEO가 메세지를 남겼다.

We owe you a big apology for the intermittent service outages we experienced on September 10th that may have impacted your website and your interaction with GoDaddy.com.
The service outage was due to a series of internal network events that corrupted router data tables. Once the issues were identified, we took corrective actions to restore services for our customers and GoDaddy.com. We have implemented measures to prevent this from occurring again.
At no time was any sensitive customer information, such as credit card data, passwords or names and addresses, compromised.
Throughout our history, we have provided 99.999% uptime in our DNS infrastructure. This is the level of performance our customers have come to expect from us and that we expect from ourselves. We pride ourselves on providing world-class service — through our products, our site experience and customer care.
We have let our customers down and we know it. I cannot express how sorry I am to those of you who were inconvenienced. We will learn from this.
I’d like to express my profound gratitude to all our customers. We are thankful for your straightforward feedback and the confidence you have shown in us.

내용의 핵심은 미안하다는 것이다. ㅋㅋ
내부 네트워크의 이벤트로 라우터 테이블이 손상이 되어서 서비스 중단이 되었다라고 한다. 해킹에 관한 언급은 없다.
이번 고대디닷컴의 서비스 중단으로 인하여 고대디닷컴은 이미지에 타격을 좀 받았을 것이다.
웃긴 것은 이 기회를 다른 업체들은 이용한다는 것이다.ㅋㅋ
가장 노골적으로 고대디닷컴의 다운 소식을 반긴 것은 호스트게이터인 것 같다.
호스트게이터는 해외 웹호스팅 업체로 손꼽히는 놈이다. 하지만 고대디의 다운은 바로 호스트게이터로 사용자를 이끄는데 역이용하였다.
호스트게이터(HostGator.com)은 자사의 웹호스팅 서비스를 50% 할인해 주거나 6개월 무료로 사용할 수 있는 쿠폰을 뿌려댓다.
그 쿠폰의 이름은 'godaddyisdown' 이다. 고대디가 뻗었다라는 쿠폰으로 자사의 상품을 홍보한 셈이라고 볼 수 있다. 불난 집을 활용해서 오히려 홍보를 하는 셈이다. 지금은 이 쿠폰이 적용되지 않느다.
또한 도메인 등록업체로 유명한 네임칩(Namecheap.com) 역시 노골적은 아니지만, 고대디닷컴 이용자를 자사로 이끌기 위해 도메인 이전 쿠폰을 평소보다 저렴한 $6.99로 유혹을 하였다.
그리고 노골적으로 또 홍보를 한 곳은 도메인 등록업체인 name.com 이다. name.com은 한정적으로 고대디닷컴에 등록된 도메인을 자사로 기관이전을 할 경우 무료로 이전(1년 추가 기간연장) 이벤트를 벌이고 있다. 아직까지 되는지는 모르겠지만, 곧 마감이거나 끝났을 것이다.
암튼 이래저래 고대디닷컴의 서비스 중단 사태로 인하여 득보는 것은 다른 경쟁업체가 아닐까 생각이 든다.
덕분에 똘82닷컴도 name.com 으로 무료로 고대디에 있는 것을 이전하기도 하였다.
암튼 피해를 입은 곳도 있겠지만... 똘82닷컴은 이번 고대디 사태로 오히려 더 유용한 시간을 보냈다~
그래도 고대디~ 다시 이런 일이 없기를...
